Mudhoney II
Two Channels of Classic T-Rex Gain
Crunchy overdrive. Thick distortion. Independent control. One pedal.
The T-Rex Mudhoney II takes the character of the original Mudhoney and doubles it.
Two independent gain channels let you set up two completely different sounds—from a lightly driven edge to a thick, saturated distortion—and switch between them instantly.
Each channel has its own Gain, Level, Tone, and Boost controls, so you are not simply getting two volume levels of the same sound. You can build two distinct gain voices and keep both ready under your foot.
From Crunch to Full Distortion
Mudhoney II was designed to move easily between different levels of gain.
Set one channel for a warm, crunchy overdrive and the other for a much more aggressive distortion sound.
That gives you a simple three-stage live setup:
Clean amplifier → Crunchy overdrive → Full distortion
without stacking multiple drive pedals or changing settings between songs. T-Rex specifically designed Mudhoney II around this progression from clean amp tone to crunch and then searing distortion.
Two Independent Channels
Each Mudhoney II channel includes its own:
- Gain
- Level
- Tone
- Boost
That independent control is what makes the pedal so useful.
One side can be open, dynamic, and relatively low gain.
The other can be darker, louder, more compressed, or significantly more aggressive.
Build the two sounds around your guitar, amplifier, and playing style instead of compromising with one shared set of controls.
Gain
The Gain control determines how much overdrive and distortion each channel produces.
Lower settings give you edge and crunch.
Turn it higher and Mudhoney II moves progressively toward thicker, more saturated distortion.
Because each channel has its own Gain control, you can create a genuine rhythm/lead relationship—or simply two completely different distortion textures.
Level
Each channel also has its own Level control.
Around 12 o’clock, the pedal’s output is approximately equal to the input level. Turn Level fully clockwise and T-Rex specifies up to approximately 15 dB of output boost.
That means you can use the channels not only for different amounts of distortion, but for different output levels as well.
Set one at unity for rhythm.
Set the other louder to push a solo forward.
Tone
The independent Tone controls let you shape the top end of each channel separately.
That can be particularly useful when the two gain settings need different EQ.
A lower-gain channel may benefit from extra presence and articulation, while a high-gain channel may sound better with some of the upper edge softened.
Mudhoney II lets you make that decision independently for each sound.
Boost on Both Channels
Each channel includes its own Boost switch, allowing you to select between moderate and higher gain behavior independently.
That adds another level of flexibility to the dual-channel architecture.
You can configure:
- Both channels moderate
- One moderate / one boosted
- Both channels boosted
The result is a much wider gain range than the simple two-channel layout initially suggests.
Deliciously Dirty
The original Mudhoney earned its reputation by covering an unusually wide range of gain—from smooth dirty edge through aggressive distortion.
Mudhoney II keeps that basic voice and gives you two independently adjustable versions of it in a single enclosure.
That makes it useful for:
- Blues
- Classic rock
- Alternative
- Grunge
- Hard rock
- Punk
- Lead guitar
- Rhythm crunch
- Dirty boost sounds

Power Budget
9V DC / 20mA
Mudhoney II is extremely light on your pedalboard power budget.
FuelTank Classic
Uses just 20mA of the shared 500mA 9V current budget.
✓ Compatible
FuelTank Junior
A single 120mA isolated output provides considerably more current than Mudhoney II requires.
✓ Compatible
FuelTank Chameleon
A standard 9V Chameleon output provides up to 300mA.
✓ Compatible
Mudhoney II needs only the current it requires—the extra available current simply remains unused.
