The T-Rex Story

From Denmark, Since 1996

T-Rex Engineering was founded in Denmark in 1996 by Lars Dahl and Sebastian Jensen.

Lars and Sebastian have known each other since childhood and both came to T-Rex through a shared background in music and engineering.

The company began by developing practical tools for musicians and gradually became known internationally for guitar effects, pedalboard power, and delay products.

Early T-Rex Products

Before T-Rex became widely known for pedals, Lars and Sebastian worked on products including the BigFoot MIDI foot controller and the Mac1 MIDI-to-analog controller.

As the company moved further into guitar effects, products such as Alberta, Mudhoney, Comp-Nova, Tremster, Møller, Replica, and FuelTank helped establish the T-Rex name with players around the world.

Several of those products became long-running parts of the T-Rex catalog.

From Pedals to Real Tape Echo

T-Rex later moved beyond conventional effects pedals with the Replicator, a real tape echo machine using magnetic tape, a motor, recording and playback heads, and a replaceable tape cartridge.

Rather than digitally simulate tape echo, the Replicator uses an actual mechanical recording system.

That approach eventually led T-Rex to another historic echo design: the Binson Echorec.

The Binson Echorec

T-Rex spent years studying and restoring original Binson Echorec machines before developing a modern electromechanical version.

The T-Rex Binson Echorec uses a real rotating magnetic drum, recording and playback heads, analog electronics, and a purpose-developed magnetic drum.

The platform later expanded with the Binson Stereophonica, adding true stereo operation and independently controlled playback heads.

Both products are built by T-Rex in Denmark.

Back with the Founders

In 2019, Lars Dahl and Sebastian Jensen reacquired the T-Rex brand and returned the company to its original founders.

Since then, T-Rex has continued developing new products while supporting many of the pedals, power products, and electromechanical effects that have been part of the company’s history.

T-Rex remains based in Denmark, with Lars and Sebastian still directly involved in the company.

T-Rex Today

Today, T-Rex manufactures effects pedals, power products, accessories, replacement parts, tape echo products, and magnetic-drum echo systems.

The T-Rex Binson Echorec is now available at Abbey Road Studios for sessions in The Gatehouse, The Front Room, and the Writing Room.
